wct@wthompsonart.com Art has always been a part of my life, and the Pacific Northwest offers a continually changing palette from which to draw inspiration. My studio shelves are filled with reference books and collections of bugs, feathers and dragonflies that I refer to for the accuracy and detail recognized in my work. I am a self-taught artist, and I believe my work is very unique. I am frequently asked where I studied Oriental design; to you, this just comes naturally. If it looks balanced and feels right, that is the way it goes down on paper. In years past I have worked with watercolor, oil, and graphite, and ultimately found that working with colored pencil allows more precision, control of details, and depth. A lot of time and patience is required to complete a colored pencil painting, and inexorably it is this same quite time that fills specific therapeutic and meditative needs in my life. When I am working, my thoughts return to the quiet places of the woods, and ponds, and I strive to emulate this in my work. If you feel a sense of quietude and tranquility when viewing my paintings, then I have been successful in conveying my thoughts and feelings to you through my work, and have hopefully given you a quiet place of your own. |
