Delina Greyling
I am Delina Greyling and I sign my art with a simple letter M, for my African alter-ego, Modjadje.
By birth an Afrikaner (mostly Germanic, and a bit of Malaysian), I celebrate eclecticism. My love for Africa does not stem from romantic dreams abou the continent; I am a bona fide child of Africa. Born in Durban, on the north-east coast of South Africa, I lived in that country for 43 years. My childhood memories are dotted with images of vibrantly colorful Zulu and Sotho beadwork, and the ever present geometric designs which decorated woven baskets, beaded mats, pit fired pottery, as well as the Ndebele art form of painted houses. The indigenous art permeated my being and influenced my style to be an eclectic mix of abstract indigenous and aboriginal art. It incorporates traditional African elements and motifs, as well as symbols from Australian and Native American art. And, like the Ndebele, I love color!
